In a word – inspiration.Â
Let me digress before making sense 😉
As I showered at the gym yesterday, I listened to a Mum with two young children, and they were both testing her patience. One was rummaging where they shouldn’t be and the other wanted to be anywhere except the one place they were asked to be. I could hear the frustration building and patience waning and exasperation setting in.
I gave a smile of understanding and began pondering this parenting lark.
Our children, throughout our lives, invoke all emotions within us, the good, the bad bad’ and the ugly. I felt a strong understanding that this provided ‘in the moment’ opportunities to teach our children the range of human emotions and how to manage them.
You see, it’s unrealistic for Jo Bloggs to stay calm and un-reactive in all situations. I want my kids to feel, and experience emotions, but I also want them to process and understand them.
With a Reiki practice, we often become more sensitive to the energy and therefore, it is easier to appreciate how our children can feel our emotions in any given moment.
Does this stop me losing my mind every now and then? Ha, no. But I can feel frustration and explain my feelings to my kids (no it won’t stop them pushing my buttons either) but it does help me reach for a better feeling and demonstrate, with sincerity, how to move away from the unhelpful emotions and show the impermanence of them too.
Reiki helps us to be the observer more often, that in turn, give us the give of mind-space to choose our response and ‘feel’ better.
