Bowen Therapy

The soft tissue that Bowen Therapy treats, is also known as connective tissue
or fascia. It’s job is to connect, which it does in every sense of the word, it surrounds every cell, organ, muscle, tendon, ligament and bone in the body, it’s a truly amazing substance. Bowen Therapy is applied with gentle intentional moves, sending vibrations along each fibre, encouraging release of tension, toxins and inflammation. The pace of a Bowen treatment is slow, allowing a natural release at the speed and intensity the body is ready for. When we slow down and allow (rather than force) release, we feel and see relief from many ailments.

What can Bowen Therapy help with?

This diagram shows common areas of pain that respond well to Bowen Therapy, including the neck, back, joints, and muscles. Bowen helps release tension and restore balance through gentle, fascia-focused treatment.

Common reasons people choose Bowen Therapy include:

• Chronic pain
• Arthritis
• Fibromyalgia
• Back and neck pain
• Headaches and migraines
• Muscle and nerve pain
• Pain from injury or post surgery

Mental Stressers

Bowen is applied with gentle yet intentional moves, creating vibrations that travel along each fibre, encouraging release of tension, toxins and inflammation. The pace of a Bowen treatment is slow, because of this, our expectation is to allow natural release at the speed our body needs. When we slow down and allow release to happen we see relief from discomforts such as:

• Fatigue
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Respiratory Complaints
• Stress
• Phantom limb pain
• Hormonal imbalance

Re-Hydration

Bowen Therapy will re-hydrate the fascia by opening and stretching the fibres to allow energy and fluid to flow easily, and re-balance the body’s systems. This also makes it an excellent treatment in preparing the body for surgery and reducing recovery time post-op.
After the treatment, the body continues processing for some time, up to 7 days in some cases, and may result in:

• Delayed onset muscle syndrome – the thing that
makes your muscles ache two days after going to
the gym
• General detox symptoms – a desire to drink more,
going to loo more often etc
• Feeling tired
• Sleeping deeeeepppl…..y

Elevate Performance

Bowen Therapy revolutionizes athletic performance by optimizing body balance, reducing injury risk, and accelerating recovery times. This gentle fascial technique enhances stamina, improves flexibility, and enables athletes to train harder more frequently. Professional sports people consistently report fewer injuries, increased range of motion, and peak performance when receiving regular Bowen treatments for optimal athletic conditioning. A Fascia Reset

The soft tissue that Bowen Therapy treats, is also known as connective tissue or fascia. Its job is to connect, which it does in every sense of the word, it surrounds every cell, organ, muscle, tendon, ligament and bone in the body, a truly amazing substance!

Bowen Therapy is a gentle bodywork treatment that works with your body’s natural ability to heal itself. Many people describe the feeling as floating on clouds — deeply relaxed, yet aware. The mind slows, the body unwinds, and occasional “hurts-so-good” moments come as tight muscles or tension points gently release.

✅ You stay fully clothed, making it easy to relax
✅ Supports all of your body’s major systems (yep — there are 9 of them!)
✅ Helps bring your whole system back into balance
✅ The best part? Bowen continues working for up to 7 days after your session

And then somewhere between 3 and 10 days, you’ll suddenly remember that you use to feel discomfort getting out the car or off your bike or walking down stairs and it’s miraculously disappeared! Yay!
Or you have more energy than before, you may feel a general sense of well-being that has enhanced your mood and increased your productivity.
Any number of possible side effects can occur so please, trust your instincts and call your Bowen therapist with any questions or concerns.

What To Expect

Q & A’s
Q. What is Bowen Therapy like?
A. A bit like massage but different.
Q. What does it treat?
A. A whole range of conditions but the common ones are – stress, fatigue, muscle tension, strains, sprains, arthritis, headaches, migraines, RSI, referred pain and hormonal imbalances.
Q. How does it feel?
A. A-m-a-z-i-n-g. But in the context you’re asking…… there are a number of specific ‘Bowen moves’ that make up a sequence of moves. Each move is light in touch and rolls your fascia or muscle groups to create a kind pinging effect on your body.
Q. How long is the treatment?
A. Anywhere between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
Q. Do I need to undress?
A. No. We treat through your clothes so it’s a good idea to wear something loose and comfortable.
Q. How many treatments will I need?
A. You will want one every week after the first time! But you are likely to need a follow-up 7 to 10 days after the first Bowen treatment and then ideally once every month or two, but this depends on your reason for treatment.
